“Jeff is an integral part of our management team, “said Kevin Tetzlaff, President of First Bank & Trust
Brookings. “This promotion is our opportunity to formalize the key leadership roles that Jeff has assumed
over the past few years in providing strategic direction for Retail, Mortgage and Business Banking.”

term relationships, which are obviously two key philosophical pillars of this organization”.

$8,000 Tax Credit for First-Time Home Buyers
SIOUX FALLS, SD, April 1, 2009 – First-time home buyers recently received some good news. As part of
the “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009,” first-time home buyers may be eligible for an $8,000
tax credit.
The tax credit applies to qualified applicants who purchase homes on or after January 1, 2009 and before
December 1, 2009 and may be either $8,000 or 10% of the value of the home, whichever is lower.
The money does not have to be repaid as long as the buyer stays in the home for at least three years.
The law defines “first-time home buyer” as a buyer who has not owned a principle residence during the
three-year period prior to the purchase. For married taxpayers, the law tests the homeownership history
of both the home buyer and his/her spouse.
Types of homes that qualify are single-family detached homes, attached homes like townhouses and
condominiums, manufactured (also known as mobile homes) and houseboats.
It is important to remember that the $8,000 tax credit is just that, a tax credit. A tax credit differs
from a deduction, in that a tax credit is equivalent to money in your hand, whereas a deduction reduces
your taxable income. A benefit of the tax credit is that it is a dollar-for-dollar tax reduction. For
example, if you normally receive an $800-$1000 refund, this means you will receive that refund plus an
$8,000 tax credit.
The tax credit starts phasing out for couples with incomes above $150,000 and single filers with incomes
above $75,000.
For more information about the tax credit or amending your 2008 return, please consult your tax professional.
You may be wondering how this home-buyer’s credit is different from the tax credit that Congress enacted in
July of 2008. The most significant difference is that this tax credit does not have to be repaid. Because
the previous “credit” had to be repaid, it was essentially an interest-free loan.
If you are in the market for your first home, this tax credit could be a great incentive.

Fishback Financial Corporation Awards Grant to Children's Home Society for an Art
& Music Teacher
SIOUX FALLS, SD, May 9, 2008 — Children’s Home Society (CHS) proudly announces the
receipt of a $150,000 grant from the Fishback Financial Corporation (FFC) Community
Fund. This grant will provide one half-time art teacher and one half-time music
teacher for Sioux Falls Children’s Home for the next three years.
“Providing a structured music & arts program for CHS children has been a long-time
dream of ours. Most children at CHS have had little or no exposure to the arts.
Consequently, any potential artistic ability has remained dormant, or sometimes
has been channeled into attention-seeking behaviors that have impacted their lives
in negative ways,” says Dennis Daugaard, Executive Director of Children’s Home Society.
“This grant will allow CHS to provide creative opportunities that will help CHS
kids express themselves in a positive way, build their self-confidence, and cultivate
musical or artistic talent.”
These creative opportunities will also help:
- Encourage children to use their imaginations to problem-solve
- Develop social skills & teamwork
- Provide positive outlets for free-time hours
- Broaden and enhance their education
- Carry artistic interests into adulthood
- To possibly develop a career path in the arts.
“Offering assistance to disadvantaged children and enhancing the liberal arts experience
are both goals of our Community Fund,” said David Waligoske, Executive Vice President
of FFC. “After touring CHS, we felt that having the opportunity to fund art and
music classes for these great kids is a perfect fit.”
“Of the 1840 children that CHS and their affiliate programs helped last year, more
than 1300 children were from right here in Minnehaha County,” said Brian Thompson,
President of First Bank & Trust, NA. “Helping enhance the educational experience
for children who attend their school is something our organization is pleased to
be able to do.”

New Mortgage Rate the Lowest in 25 months
Sioux Falls, SD,
Dec. 6, 2007 - On November 29th homeowners were treated to an early holiday surprise:
the lowest 30-year fixed-rate in over two years. For many, this is a great opportunity
to cash in on lower rates and to get out from under their adjustable rate mortgages.
Rates have inched up slightly from their low point after President Bush announced
a mortgage relief plan endorsed by the Treasury Department for sub-prime borrowers
and the jobs report released this morning did nothing but reinforce the likelihood
of the Fed cutting their benchmark rate next week. Brian Spaans, Mortgage Loan Officer
for First Bank & Trust in Sioux Falls, said that there are many reasons homeowners
should consider refinancing with rates under 6%.
- This is the lowest 30-year fixed interest rate in over two years.
However, each time this interest rate reached previous low points, both last year
and earlier this year, it began increasing and didn't stop, climbing over 0.50%
in the months that followed!
- Several homeowners in the area have adjustable rate mortgages coming due
within the next 6 months. Taking advantage of the refinance opportunity
now rather than later could be the difference between a consumer being able to afford
their current home or not.
- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac tightened guidelines, announcing new Loan-Level
Price Adjustments. In the first quarter of 2008, most borrowers who have
good credit, but have FICO scores below 680, will now be forced either to pay more
points at closing or incur a higher interest rate.
“The amount that a borrower could be forced to pay, even if they've never been late
on a payment, could be as much as 1.00% higher than the going rate,” said Spaans.
On a $250,000 home loan, a borrower could have to pay up to $5,000 in points in
order to receive normal market rates! Borrowers choosing the higher interest rate,
under the worst-case scenario, would stand to lose over $7,500 in just the first
three years of the loan.
“Choosing to wait to refinance could cost consumers money both in the form of higher
market rates and points,” said Spaans.

of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to re-establish
an effective rhythm. The FVR is a portable unit that describes various wound treatments.

through digitized voicing.

done so much to support our organization,” stated Kevin Tetzlaff, President of First

Fund. We just really appreciate the gift,” said Ryan Pekelder, Fire Chief for Stockholm
VFD.
