Imposter Scams are a scam that targets you and everyone you know, there is no exceptions to who may be targeted. This scam knows no limit and will work to trick and steal your money.
This is when a scammer pretends to be a person, business, or government agency you TRUST, then try to convince you to send money. The requests could be coming from a loved one in trouble, a government official, tech support, or someone else.
Imposter Scams are on the rampage and here is what you need to know to protect yourself:
- If you get a call from a business, person, or government agency requesting payment or claiming you need to make things right or else there will be severe consequences such as arrest, hang up and call back the business, person, or the government agency at a trusted and published number.
- Always stop and think before sending money to anyone, especially if it is unexpected. Don’t let a caller pressure you into action. This is a common tactic by scammers.
- Use caution with unknown phone numbers and with your caller ID. Scammers can easily alter their outgoing phone number to be local or align with the area of the business with whom they are claiming to be associated.
