Traveling with a Debit Card

At First Bank & Trust, we want you to enjoy your travel. One way to maximize your fun is to make sure you won’t have any interruptions with your debit or credit card spending. Let us know when you plan to travel outside your home state, especially if you are traveling internationally, so we can make sure everything goes smoothly.

Before you travel, contact your credit card and debit card providers to report your upcoming travel. It is best to report travel on all cards you will be carrying, even if you do not plan to use them. In the event of an emergency, the additional payment methods may come into use.

Always travel with more than one form of payment. Your card may be lost, stolen, or compromised while you are traveling. Bringing more than one form of payment with you will ensure you can continue your travel plans even if an unplanned card event occurs.

When you contact your banks, verify you have the best contact number saved and ask if there are any other numbers you should be aware of, such as a debit card blocking service. Save or document these numbers so you have them available during your travel, if needed.

Know your PIN number. In some states or countries, it may be required for you to enter your PIN number to conduct the transaction. Verify ahead of time you know your PIN number, and if not, request it be reset prior to travel.

If you have plans for travel, remember to contact First Bank & Trust prior to departure at 1-800-843-1552.

Thank you for banking with us!
