In April 2006, First American Bank & Trust was acquired by Fishback Financial and is now named First Bank & Trust. It originated in Madison, South Dakota in 1883. After several changes in ownership, a local investor group bought the bank in 1987 and operated under the name of First Madison Bank. The Jubilee Office in Madison was added in 1994. The South Dakota Banking Commission granted approval in 1998 for a name change to First American Bank & Trust. Along with the name change, the bank was given approval to establish an office in Sioux Falls and to acquire a bank in Canton, as well as add trust powers. Additional offices were added in Watertown in April 2002 and Garretson in May 2012. What hasn't changed from that single bank in Madison is our devotion to hometowns and to friends and customers.
An independent commercial bank, First Bank & Trust is locally owned by both stockholders and employees. With this background we understand your needs because we're your friends and neighbors.
Along the way First Bank & Trust has acquired some recognition from our peers as well as our communities. The Century Business Award was presented by the Industry Commerce Association of South Dakota for being in business for 100 years or more. In 1991 we received the ABEX Award for community service, and in 1998 the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development recognized us as a "Top Ten" lender for South Dakota Rural Housing. First Bank & Trust believes strongly in giving back to its communities and each year receives United Way's Excellence Award for employee giving.
We treasure our tradition of community responsibility and customer service. Much has changed, but when you visit with us, you'll find old-fashioned customer service is how we do business.
