  • Feeding South Dakota
    • Area Served: Statewide in South Dakota
      Overview: Feeding South Dakota is a hunger-relief organization fighting daily to eliminate hunger in South Dakota. Every week, Feeding South Dakota assists in providing temporary food assistance to approximately 21,000 hungry individuals and families in South Dakota, and their BackPack Program gives food every weekend to over 5,500 kids who otherwise might go hungry.
  • 60s Plus Dining
    • Area Served: Eastern and Northeastern South Dakota
      Overview: Facilitated by Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership, 60s Plus Dining serves noon meals in over 30 communities to persons aged 60 and over. The program helps fight malnutrition for those citizens as well as provides socialization.
  • Pipestone County Food Shelf
    • Area Served: Pipestone County
      Overview: The Pipestone County Food Shelf serves residents in Pipestone County who are experiencing an emergency or financial difficulty that limits their ability to purchase food for themselves and their family.
  • Harvest Table
    • Area Served: Brookings
      Overview: The Harvest Table is a warm, no-cost meal served every Monday night from 5:30-6:30 pm at the Community Life Center in Brookings, SD. The meal is offered for anyone in the community looking for good food and good company.
  • The Banquet
    • Area Served: Sioux Falls
      Overview: The Banquet provides a welcoming place where people can gather, receive nourishment, and experience love in action. The Banquet serves three meals a day Monday–Friday and lunch on Saturday.

Providing Housing and Aiding Self-Sufficiency

  • Habitat for Humanity*
    • Area Served: Statewide in South Dakota or Pipestone
      Overview: Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates houses in partnership with people in need, and then sells the houses to the homeowner partners. Homeowners are selected by local affiliates based on their need for housing; an ability to repay a nonprofit, low-interest mortgage; and the willingness to partner with Habitat.
  • St. Francis House
    • Area Served: Sioux Falls
      Overview: St. Francis House is an ecumenical emergency shelter and transitional housing program for the homeless offering hospitality, fellowship, and support to those in need. Their program provides guests shelter, food, case management, and support.
  • Volunteers of America, Dakotas
    • Area Served: Statewide in South Dakota
      Overview: Volunteers of America, Dakotas is a nonprofit, spiritually based organization that reaches out to empower people of all ages to become healthier, self-sufficient, productive members of their communities.
  • Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership – Housing Repair/Rehabilitation
    • Area Served: Madison, Watertown and Milbank
      Overview: ICAP delivers a repair and accessibility modification program for the homes of eligible persons and families. HOME funds can be used for accessibility modifications for persons with disabilities, in addition to making necessary repairs for health, safety, and code compliance.
  • Bishop Dudley Hospitality House
    • Area Served: Sioux Falls
      Overview: The Bishop Dudley Hospitality House offers daytime and overnight emergency shelter for the homeless and vulnerable. A wide range of other social service providers offer additional essential services aimed at providing a hand up to those in need.

Funding Medical Research

  • Relay For Life*
    • Area Served: Brookings County, Sioux Falls, Milbank or Pipestone
      Overview: Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries. Volunteers give of their time and effort because they believe it's time to take action against cancer.
  • Susan G. Komen Great Plains
    • Area Served: Statewide in South Dakota
      Overview: Susan G. Komen Great Plains is the local source for funding breast cancer detection, support and educational awareness across the Dakotas. Since 1994, Komen Great Plains has granted funds for education, diagnosis, treatment, and support programs that serve uninsured or underinsured people in South Dakota.
  • March of Dimes – South Dakota Chapter
    • Area Served: Statewide in South Dakota
      Overview: March of Dimes, South Dakota Chapter works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
  • National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
    • Area Served: Brookings and Sioux Falls
      Overview: NAMI is a non-profit organization dedicated to carrying out the mission to improve the lives of persons affected by mental illness.
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Dakota
    • Area Served: Statewide in South Dakota
      Overview: RMHC’s mission is to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health and wellbeing of children, with a goal to provide a place where families can be together while their children get medical treatment and support.

Helping Youth

  • Girls on the Run (EmBe)*
    • Area Served: Brookings, Sioux Falls, and Pipestone
      Overview: Girls on the Run is a non-profit program that works to encourage pre-teen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games, culminating in a celebratory 5K run.
  • Boys & Girls Club*

      Overview: Boys & Girls Clubs of America is a national organization of local chapters that provide after-school programs for young people.
  • McCrossan Boys Ranch
    • Area Served: Statewide in South Dakota
      Overview: McCrossan Boys Ranch is a private non-profit organization dedicated to providing a place for boys to grow into men. They reach out to boys aged 9–20 who have experienced conflict in their lives.
  • Family Visitation Center
    • Area Served: Sioux Falls
      Overview: The focus of FVC programs is to ensure the safety and well-being of children when they are caught in the middle of issues such as divorce, domestic violence, substance abuse, and/or child abuse.
  • Brookings County Youth Mentoring

      Overview: The Brookings County Youth Mentoring Program (BCYMP) promotes one-on-one mentoring efforts to youth in the community. The program was developed to ensure all youth have the guidance and support of a caring, stable adult.

  • Washington Pavilion Visual Arts Center

      Overview: The Visual Arts Center brings exhibitions of leading regional, national, and international artists to its seven spacious galleries. The Visual Arts Center is dedicated to building, preserving, and conserving its collections for both South Dakotans and worldwide audiences.
  • National Music Museum
    • Area Served: Vermillion
      Overview: The National Music Museum is a unique institution that includes more than 15,000 American, European, and non-Western instruments from virtually all cultures and historical periods.
  • Calumet Players
    • Area Served: Pipestone
      Overview: The Calumet Players are a non-profit theater group presenting three main-stage and two children's theater shows a year at the Performing Arts Center in Pipestone, MN.
  • South Dakota Humanities Council
    • Area Served: Statewide in South Dakota
      Overview: The South Dakota Humanities Council is a non-profit and the only cultural organization in the state whose sole mission is to deliver humanities programming to the people of South Dakota. Their vision is to lead statewide advocacy for the humanities, working with other partners to foster literary and civic engagement.

      Overview: Children's Home Society of South Dakota works to protect, support, and enhance the lives of children and families through programs including residential treatment and education as well as foster care and adoption services.

Assisting Disabled Individuals

  • DakotAbilities
    • Area Served: Statewide in South Dakota
      Overview: DakotAbilities serves people with disabilities throughout South Dakota. Providing places to live and work for people with disabilities is a big part of what they do, but they also offer alternative services for people who are not interested in employment services, communication resources, dietary services, case management, and more.
  • Advance
    • Area Served: Brookings
      Overview: ADVANCE is a private non-profit organization that supports more than 115 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They also provide services to people who have conditions caused by accident, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, or diseases such as muscular dystrophy.
  • Special Olympics of South Dakota
    • Area Served: Statewide in South Dakota
      Overview: Special Olympics South Dakota provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children (8 years and older) and adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • LifeScape
    • Area Served: Sioux Falls
      Overview: LifeScape is an independent non-profit organization serving adults and children in Sioux Falls.
  • Valiant Living (ECCO)
    • Area Served: Madison
      Overview: The mission of Valiant Living, formerly called Every Citizen Counts Organization (ECCO, Inc.), is focused on serving people with disabilities in the Madison, SD community.
