Buying your first home can feel like a big step, especially when it comes to saving for a downpayment. A new program from South Dakota Housing could make that step a little easier.

The Give Me Five program provides eligible first-time homebuyers with 5% of their first mortgage amount in downpayment assistance through a five-year forgivable loan.

How Give Me Five Works

Eligible homebuyers can receive:

  • 5% of the first mortgage amount in downpayment assistance
  • Assistance provided as a second mortgage with no monthly payments
  • Loan forgiveness after five years, provided the home remains the buyer's primary residence and all program requirements are met
