He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and his MBA from Central Michigan University. He is a graduate of the Cannon Financial Institute and has earned the Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA) designation. He is a native of Arcadia, IA.

Nicole Yseth joined the bank in 2011 in the Retirement Plan Services area before becoming a Wealth Management Services Relationship Manager. Her responsibilities include providing administrative and relationship management to qualified retirement plan accounts. Nicole earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Northern State University.

Originally from Redfield, SD, Nicole now resides in Brookings where she stays involved in the community as a volunteer for the annual Brookings Marathon and St. Thomas More Catholic Church. In her free time, Nicole enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, and reading. She can often be found at her twins’ (Ruby and Leo) activities and spending time with her husband Tim and stepdaughters, Taylor and Regan.

John Gustafson joined First Bank & Trust in 2020 as a Wealth Management Senior Officer. John has over thirty years of experience in the financial services industry, with the majority in investment and portfolio management. He has obtained the Certified Estate and Trust Specialist (CES) designation from the Institute of Business & Finance. John grew up on a farm near Gregory SD, and graduated from South Dakota State University with a major in Commercial Economics. John and his wife Anna are the parents of five grown children and enjoy five grandchildren.

Lance Howard began working at First Bank & Trust in 2011. Prior to joining the Wealth Management team, he served as Consumer Loan Officer and Call Center Supervisor. In his current role as Wealth Management Officer, Lance enjoys working with clients to identify their personal investment goals. He is a graduate of South Dakota State University and holds a degree in business economics.

Lance is a member of the Brookings Lions Club and enjoys helping the club with a variety of projects. When he’s not working, he spends his time golfing, attending SDSU events, and traveling. Lance and his wife Abigail have two children, Truman and Rosemary.

Devan Schaefer joined the organization in 2021 as a Universal Banking Intern and transitioned to Continuous Improvement Specialist. A graduate of South Dakota State University, Devan earned a bachelor's degree in business economics and M.S. in economics. He also represented First Bank & Trust as a Campus Ambassador. Devan became a Wealth Management Officer in February 2023. Originally from Mankato, MN, he enjoys spending time with his wife Audree as well as being outdoors hiking and golfing.

Sam Wilber joined the organization in 2020 as a Retail Banking Specialist and quickly transitioned to Business Loan Specialist in the Commercial Lending department. Born and raised in Brookings, Sam attended South Dakota State University where he earned a degree in business economics.

Sam enjoys attending various community events, where he can connect with peers and other professionals. You can also find him at local Bobcat and Jackrabbit sporting events with friends and family. Sam supports the community through local conservation efforts such as Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. In his free time, he enjoys spending time in the outdoors hunting, fishing, and golfing.
